*phew* that's a relief not having to watch previous seasons.
Just don't be too harsh on me with the interrogation, I don't take in little details as easily if a crush is not involved!

Um...have I just entered a parallel universe or something? I've only been off a day and come back to find Eva talking of buying Spooks??!!
At first I thought it had already been released in Greece and I was very very jealous because we have to wait till October for the UK release. But Australia has had it since March. I've no idea why there is such a time difference, maybe it's something to do with the Special Features they'll put on. Or maybe it's just a marketing ploy to release it just before Season 8 starts in November. Anyway, I really hope you enjoy it Eva! Like Evelyn, 8 episodes went far too quickly for me; all the other series of Spooks were 10 episodes each. Maybe the producers decided to concentrate on quality not quantity and that's what got them the BAFTA nomination this time. BTW I'm not sure if there will be 8 or 10 episodes for Spooks 8. Evelyn, re George Gently: Another challenge was mastering the Geordie accent. "Ricky's from Durham, and there are so many North East accents," he said. "I was lucky though, because the last job I did was The Vicar of Dibley, and one of the drivers was from Durham. When I heard him speak, I dug out a tape recorder and said, 'Excuse me, mate, but could you record these lines for me?' " From the excerpts I've watched on You Tube I'd say Richard absolutely nailed the Geordie accent, but remember I'm a southerner. I'm sure a northerner would probably spot any imperfections! D xx

Eva - don't be afraid! We'll be nice.
Can't get away from the Spooks topic.
According to the BBC site: The 8 x 60-minute series is due for broadcast on BBC One in Autumn 2009.Drats, yet only 8 episodes again. Funny, how in that one thread about accents, I was thinking about the variations of accents within the US. There was one scene in the new Star Trek movie where Karl Urban (who plays McCoy) speaks a Southern accent (American I mean) and then at the end, no trace of it.

Only 8 episodes? Oh, what a shame, I was hoping for 10. Bah!
Over the weekend I watched a documentary on tv about Ted Hughes and it struck me there's an uncanny likeness between him and RA (imagining Richard in say 20 years time). If they ever did a tv drama about his life then Richard would be an excellent choice, with perhaps Anna Maxwell Martin as Sylvia Plath? It made me want to listen to Richard's reading of the Ted Hughes letters again on Radio 4. He does it so beautifully; he doesn't try to impersonate Ted Hughes but just captures that gentleness in his voice and the northern lilt. It's so moving it always makes me cry. D xx

I see the resemblance between RA & Ted Hughes. RA as Ted Hughes...I like that idea. Maybe better than Daniel Craig? I haven't really got around to
watching Sylvia movie w/Gwyneth Paltrow & DC. I'm not a big Gwynnie fan. And poor Sylvia. She reminds me of Virginia Woolf
in regards to how her life ended. What is it with these artsy types? I suppose chemical imbalance in their brains causing their artistic genius to rise to
the surface.
So, Doulla, how was Drowning Not Waving? I didn't realize that this program was only 45 minutes long. I see there are no screencaps yet at AA & C19 forums. I can't wait to get back online tonight. |

OMG!! OMG!! OMG!! Evelyn, I cannot tell you how gorgeous he looked in it! I got home from work and was praying that my timer record had worked...and it did...and my tongue is still on the ground. He's just so good at being bad, but then you're never quite sure if he is bad; it was a perfect role for him, I could see why the writer wrote it with him in mind. My only criticism was that 45 minutes is way too short, it should have been at least an hour long. And because it's daytime drama they are quite restricted in what they show. Maybe they should produce an after the watershed version. Edited to add one of the first screencaps from YW. D xx

However, I'm not liking the gray stripped shirt w/the white collar.
I know, it's hideous isn't it! All his clothes are...the sweaters, the coat with the black collar, the tight fitting trousers; the costume department did such a brilliant job making him look smarmy and 'spiv-like' and a bit of a ladies man. Compare it to how beautifully and elegantly the team dress him in Spooks. I couldn't believe the buzz on the AA last night, it was going mad. Everyone loved Moving On; on second viewing I found the directing and music slightly intrusive (I was far too distracted first time round!), but as for Richard performance - it was absolutely brilliant! Here's one of my fav screencaps, I love the smile, the profile... D xx

Okay, after commenting on some thread in the Gen. section I am now here...and need some clarification...Spooks..is a series of itself? Some reason I thought
that RA also was in MI-5? I have not watched MI 5 [netflix via instant download] for a while, though I am in the last season...I have been waiting for him to
show up.
Does RA do films? seems he does mostly TV series....not that such is a bad thing...esp. in the UK. |

We are merciless, Eva!
Cindy! Welcome to this thread. Evelyn, thanks for the info on the Moving On and Robin Hood 3 dvds. To be honest, I'm not sure it's worth buying the whole series of Moving On; all 5 episodes were very good but not the kind of thing I'd want to watch over and over. Except Richard's episode which is getting worn out in our house! LOL!! I just read that account on the RA website from the lady who went to the Moving On premier and met Richard's co-star Christine Tremarco: "...so I started asking Christine what it was like to work with Richard and she said 'he's an absolute joy, so professional and friendly and we clicked straight away so the whole shoot was a pleasure.'...I was feeling a bit cheeky by then (the wine!) so I then just blurted out 'is he a good kisser?' and she laughed really loudly and then said 'oh, he's the best, really really good'...She said she can't wait to work with him again, and joked that she'd been asking Sarah to write them another script together as soon as possible." Music to my ears. D xx

George Gently | ||
|
I've just finished watching George Gently - absolutely brilliant! Really enjoyed it.
Excellent writing and well acted, and they've done such a great job of recreating 1964. But that's no wonder, the minute I saw it was directed by Euros Lyn I knew we were in for something special. He's my favourite Doctor Who director, done about 10 episodes including "Girl in the Fireplace" and "Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead", probably the best episodes of the whole series. He's especially good at period pieces and mystery/suspense etc. I wish Richard had been in more scenes, but what there was was good. He looked gorgeous as Ricky Deeming in all the leather biker clothes, like a modern version of Sir Guy! Some screencaps curtesy of the AA: This is such a beautiful picture...the sea...the sunset...RA unmistakeably tall... I actually screamed "NO" in this scene when Phil Davis (as Joe Webster) was going to blow-torch Richard's face off. And yet look at the size of Phil Davis compared to RA, he's tiny. Hard to believe he managed to overpower him and chain him up. D xx

Evelyn, re Ricky Deeming, do you think he was having a relationship with Billy Lister?
I can't quite make up my mind. I don't think so, judging by Ricky's reaction when Billy kissed him on the cheek in the cafe; but maybe when Billy said he needed to talk to Ricky it was to tell him he loved him. I'm sure he must have known Billy had a crush on him after all the hours they spent together in his room while Billy drew him. And yet when Joe Webster accuses Ricky of raping Billy, he neither confirms nor denies. Interesting storyline... D xx
