Looks like we're all agreed, Spy it is!
Mind you, I'm quite partial to long hair if it goes with the part - I think it suits Richard's costume as Sir Guy. Or, for example, Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn in Lord of the Rings. I loved the way he looked in that. But if it's long hair it has to be dishevelled, not salon-straight like Orlando Bloom's Legolas! D xx

poor Legolas, everyone thinks he is a poof!
I have no problem with long hair if it is for a part. But when filming ends... go to a hair-dresser! Don't get me wrong, I like some men with long hair (Johnny Depp comes in mind) but usually when they cut it, I go "squeeee!" E.xxx PS: ahem... is that a wig he is sporting for RH? (whadya know I am already writing with initials!)

We'll be testing you on the abbreviations shortly, Eva!
Yes, that is his own hair for Sir Guy, not a wig. When he was promoting Spooks he was in the middle of filming Robin Hood and had his hair tied back like this: Then when he was promoting Robin Hood in March, he had started filming the next series of Spooks so he had his hair short as agent Lucas North. Edited to add: Evelyn, doesn't he look thin in your profile shot! He lost so much weight for those first few episodes of Spooks 7, about a stone and a half I think. He seems much heavier now so I wonder how he will manage with the action sequences, not to mention the chest shots...bound to be some don't you think? It's become quite a tradition for Richard to get his shirt off! D xx

Doulla,
I have never seen or heard of spooks. Is Robin Hood coming back? They left in such a hard place at the season finale. "Happy thoughts, happy dreams,
happy dances in between."

Doulla, he has filled out since Spooks 7. I do like him wiry. Di, Spooks is titled MI-5 in the US. They are currently showing Series 1 with Matthew Macfadyen on PBS station. It will be awhile before
Series 7 (which first introduces RA's character, Lucas North) will be shown on US TV. Edit to add the Toby photos

Di, as Evelyn says Spooks (or MI-5 as it's called in the US) is in its' 7th Season; the first 2
were with Matthew MacFadyen, then Rupert Penry-Jones was the lead for Series 3 to 6, and Richard took over for Series 7 (which was recently nominated for a
BAFTA). RA is now filming Series 8.
Our lovely Spooks leads through the years: Matthew MacFadyen as Tom Quinn Rupert Penry-Jones as Adam Carter Richard Armitage as Lucas North D xx

Thanks Doulla for the photos! It's actually funny to watch Series 1 with Macfadyen b/c his wife, Keeley Hawes also starred in it.
Someone told me Rupert's new tv show by Jerry Bruckheimer, The Forgotten will be on ABC here in the US. I wish him luck but I'm seeing Joe's show, Flash Forward getting the viewership. FF will be attracting the Lost audience once Lost ends its run next year.

You know, I've been thinking about it for days now and I am sure I've seen your Richard in Spooks when I was in London in December... Possibly the same
episode that scene they showed at Bafta clip was featured because it stroke me as familiar when I saw it... I was impressed with myself back then, because I
could "follow" even tho I was dead tired and had missed 6 seasons!
I love watching British tv when I am in London... strangely enough there is always something interesting on... in 2005 I even watched the election results... heh! E.xxx PS: Does anyone want to tell me WHY I am searching "Spooks" in the Tor's now? As if I need something new to obssess about... And I don't even find the man attractive!... you owe me girls, you owe me BIG!

Thanks Audrey, I felt the need to see all three together.
Does anyone want to tell me WHY I am searching "Spooks" in the Tor's now? As if I need something new to obssess about... And I don't even find the man attractive!... you owe me girls, you owe me BIG! We certainly do, Eva! Must be worth a retsina at least! From memory, the episode you must have seen is the one where Lucas is sent back to Moscow and ends up in a Russian bar with a girl on his lap. And dear sweet Ben has his throat cut by a wire. Sound familiar? But seriously, Spooks is a fantastic show, I'd really recommend it. To be running this long and still maintain the viewing figures and a BAFTA nomination in its' 7th series…I got gripped from Series 5 onwards then had to go back and watch it right from the beginning. And yet, much as I liked Mathew MacFadyen and Rupert Penry-Jones, they never did anything for me. But when RA joined it was instant! I've no idea why...I knew him already from Vicar of Dibley and that he was the only thing worth watching in Robin Hood, but it wasn't until I saw him in Spooks that this madness started. Evelyn, re Keely Hawes that's where her and MM met, on Spooks 1; I've got a feeling she was already married at the time. And, of course, she played Richard's sister in Vicar of Dibley. I remember an interview with Richard when I think he was asked if he'd ever had crush on anyone and he said something like 'Keely Hawes in Ashes to Ashes because it's set in the 80's and that's when I first discovered girls'. Re Flash Forward and Forgotten, interesting to see how they do. I've no idea if they'll be shown in the UK so let us know what you think of them. D xx

If Keely Hawes wasn't already married to Mathew MacFadyen, I've always thought her and Richard make the most gorgeous couple.

They could have been the models for those traditional wedding cake toppers.
re Keely Hawes that's where her and MM met, on Spooks 1; I've got a feeling she was already married at the time. I did read that she was married to someone else when she met MM. Proximity & all. But when I watched the first couple of episodes of Spooks Series 1, they really didn't have much screen time together. So, their romance must have been blossoming backstage instead. The 80's, I can relate with him. That's when I was also having major crushes on my classmates. Speaking of George Gently, here's a quote from RAonline website: Another challenge was mastering the Geordie accent. "Ricky's from Durham, and there are so many North East accents," he said. "I was lucky though, because the last job I did was The Vicar of Dibley, and one of the drivers was from Durham. When I heard him speak, I dug out a tape recorder and said, 'Excuse me, mate, but could you record these lines for me?' " I finished it last night and I liked the plot & characters. I may watch the other 2 disks in this GG series. I don't know exactly if he mastered
that Geordie accent but I knew that it quite different from his typical voice. I'll have to see if it resembles the voices he uses in the Lords of the
North audiobook.

I suppose if we didn't have our RA eye candy, Spooks is still a very good show to watch. The writing is marvelous, don't you think? Poor Ben. That was quite a shocker. I was really liking his character and they end up eliminating him. I even like Hermione Norris who has a classic ice maiden look (works well with her MI-5 role). Well, Eva, you'll now have to join us in Spooks Series 8 discussions when the show starts up again the Fall.

Ok, I am "ordering" season 7 as we speak... but do you think I should watch the previous seasons before, so I know what's going on? (please
don't say yes)
From memory, the episode you must have seen is the one where Lucas is sent back to Moscow and ends up in a Russian bar with a girl on his lap. And dear sweet Ben has his throat cut by a wire. Sound familiar? AMAZING!! I have a vague understanding of how you do this, but still amazing! Yes, it was quite interesting, I was almost sad when the episode ended. What time was it on, Doulla? Evelyn, let me get through S7 before we can talk about the upcoming one! E.xxx

Eva, I haven't watched the previous seasons of Spooks and was able to follow the storyline in Season 7. So, no, you don't really need to watch the previous seasons. That opening scene in Episode 1 was the only confusing part b/c of the backstory from Season 6. So, are you getting season 7 from Australia? Amazon UK has delivery date of Oct 2009. Okay, I'll wait and let you finish Season 7 before we quiz (interrogate) you. From memory, the episode you must have seen is the one where Lucas is sent back to Moscow and ends up in a Russian bar with a girl on his lap. LOL.
