Day light savings time is back again for the USA....hated losing an hours sleep but love it being light longer. This weekend the weather was fabulous....84
degrees F...what is that, about 24 celius?? blue blue skies...things are beginnning to bloom. It is the dry season....just very lovely. It will be a great time
for Wexygirl to be here!
So I think for the time being we are six hours apart in time with the UK? |

Yesterday we could use Laurenz again very well to avoid a miles long queue in Berlin Cindy, though it's sunny right now in Berlin, we're still far away from spring. Temperatures still won't rise over 7 or 8° C.

How wonderful, Clifton. I walked past it a month ago and wished then that it had been open. To see the building empty must have been special.
Cindy, lovely sunny spring weather here too (though much cooler than yours) but our clocks don't go forward for a couple of weeks I think. I love it when they go forward. |

Jas, what time is it in London? Is there a five hour difference between London and the east coast of the US right now?

Clifton, a whole different question: Are you familiar with the actor Werner Stocker? And the films by Joseph Vismaier? If so, what do you think?

To see the building empty must have been special.Well, it was full with people. But slow as we usually progress we were soon the last ones in each room. And ignoring some key rattling assistents some interesting views on the scenery were possible:

The forum has our time here. It's normally 5 hours but in this little interregnum it's presumably 6. Don't you remember I was in New York this last
weekend 2 years ago for Coast of Utopia, and the clocks in the US went forward and Mr Shammy was (quite reasonably) worried I'd forget and miss my flight?
Edited to say I mean presumably it's 4 right now, not 6! |

Werner Stocker died long ago, didn't he? Did you see Herbstmilch (Vilsmaier+Stocker)? Vilsmaier makes movies for big audiences and some of them are quite
good (Comedian Harmonists). I always wanted to see Herbstmilch, but haven't so far. He's married to actress Dana Vávrová and gives her very good parts
in his films.
Oh my, I googled her and saw that she has died of cancer a few days ago, aged 41

Yes, the poor man died of brain cancer at the age of 38. I loved Herbstmilch! I haven't seen Comedian Harmonists though. I've just seen Rama Dama, and
also really liked it.
I really liked Dana Vávrová in Herbstmilch. So they both died of cancer really young.

the weather here has been around 30 to 31 celisus this week....a bit too warm for me this early but it will still continue to fluctuate a bit longer...then
BAM....its 35 cel. and sometimes higher with humidity over 80%....over 90%....yuk.
My client with the guide dog...the one that will eventually get a motorize wheelchair....she decided to give up her dog this weekend.and the puppy raisers drove down Sunday...from Tenessee..that is a 10 hour + trip...and picked up Sophie early Monday morning and drove back to Tennessee.....my client is of coursr grieving but she still knows she did the right thing for her dog. Today we went out and she was able to buy a new pink wallet and a new bag to carry her things in....with her wheelchair...also 'ultra chic'...pink with a kitty one it ;-) She very much was happy with those things...not that these things make her pain go away but it was still something to cheer her up a bit. |

That's good, Cindy. A new pink wallet is very cheering.

Hi everyone!
I can understand it must be hard for your client to let her dog go - I can imagine there must be quite a bond between her and her guide dog after some time living together. It reminds me of a story that happened in France not so long ago: a blind man miraculously recovered his sight after years being blind. I was the owner of a guide dog that he'd had for ages, I think it was called Pimms, he really loved this dog. But he thought that someone else would need the dog now that he did not need it anymore, so he gave him away to a charity that deals with partnering up blind people and trained giude dog. I thought it was a lovely, touching story. And I agree with Jas, a pink wallet is always a good thing to have Not been posting much these days, really busy and quite stressed out. I have classes two or three days a week, and the rest of the time, I baby sit, I give private tuition to a 17 year old, I'm studying towards a few exams and study cases I have left... I'm also quite fed up with living at my parents' at the moment - it comes and goes, most of the time I'm all right with it, but at the moment, I'm feeling a bit stifled by my parents' presence. And most of all, I've been looking for an internship (without it, you can't pass your year and go on with the Masters course). Of course, I knew I'd find one eventually, but I was fed up with going to interviews, and nothing was coming out of it... So I was really stressed out So I'm quite happy tonight, I've got an interesting internship (I'll be assistant to the marketing manager, basically, with a lot of different other things to do, like corporate communications, liaising with advertising agencies, media planning, stuff like that...). Just a couple of exams and one study case (on Pierre & Vacance, funny thing) to go, and I'll be ready to get into the real world And of course, even though I don't post as much as I usually do, I still peek on the forum daily to check on you ladies!

Congratulations, Lib. The internship sounds really interesting, and it's good to get a variety of experiences. You'll be living independently again
soon enough! it's worth having a bit less freedom in the short term.

Well done, Audrey! All the hard work is paying off and I'm sure you'll find the experience at P & V invaluable.
BTW, how was your weekend in Glasgow? I forgot to ask. D xx

Lib, as a matter of interest, did you try for an internship with any organisations here? I'm assuming not because of the cost of staying here, but I'd
be interested to hear if you did.

It's always good to hear from you, Lib. I'm glad things are going well.
While I'm thinking about it, I believe that I said I would post about my Kindle when I got it. Well, I've got it and I'm in love with it. It's terrific. It feels good in your hands, the reading quality is excellent, and you can change the font size (for those of us who have middle-aged eyes!). The battery lasts for two weeks, unless you keep the Whispernet on.
It holds 1500 books. Amazon saves all your purchases on its servers, so if you lose the Kindle, you can always download purchased books. When you do purchase a book, you've got it in 60 seconds. Amazon uses Whispernet technology, so that you can download almost anywhere. Prices are extremely reasonable. Most new books are $9.99--classics are much cheaper. I got all the Jane Austen books for 99 cents. That's not 99 cents each--all for 99 cents. I got all of Shakespeare for, I think, $4.49. One of the best things is that you can download a sample of a book before you buy. It's a substantial sample, too--I think you get about 10%. Isn't that the amount that's considered 'fair use'? When you've got the book, you can underline passages and make notes. Included with the Kindle is a dictionary, so you can look up words if you need to. Really, Amazon should hire me to do publicity. I'm someone who has always loved the feel and smell of books, so I had some reservations about an electronic reader. Curiosity impelled me to get it though, and I'm enjoying it tremendously.

That's good to hear. I should really give it a try. Can I ask how much the actual Kindle costs?
|

Bluekygirl |

It's $359. This is the second generation--the original Kindle was $400, although that price was quickly lowered. You can see I've been thinking about
this for a while.
