Lib, have a great time - are you wearing your black(navy?) and white dress?
Well remembered! Yep, I'm wearing this one for the service (it's black btw And a black satin dress for the party. I've got many dresses, so I'm making the most of them! It's meant to be sunny and the wedding is on the seaside, all my cousins will be there, it's going to be cool!

Audrey, have a lovely weekend and enjoy the wedding.
Nastia, wonderful news about Goran Bregovic (I'd never heard of him until Eva posted that video of Enderlezi here). I'm sure all the hassle will be worth it for this once in a lifetime experience! D xx

Enjoy the concert Nastia, and have positive thoughts about the traffic. Remember, you are going against the flow of the Friday traffic---and leave early.

Have a great time at the concert, Nastia!
Eva, which part did you want details about? Hurlyburly? Yes, that was 25 years ago as Jas said. I remember wanting to see the play specifically because WH was in it, and also Sigourney Weaver but for the life of me I don't recall what I could have already seen her in that I would have already recognized her from. Anyway, the show was interesting. I wasn't expecting a nude scene from SW. I was pretty young at the time and I was shocked by it I recall. His acting was wonderful as usual....I can't remember any more details unfortunately. If you were asking about WH's relationship problems from the past here's a link from a CNN interview: http://www.cnn.com/2009/S...marlee.matlin/index.html Lib, have a nice time at the wedding! |

Eva226 wrote: It's "Ederlezi," there's no "n." The word is a Serbian Roma holiday feast, the song he composed for it is not really his song, it's a traditional Roma song, he just re-imagined it for a particular soundtrack. Remember I posted the video from the Hungarian Idol TV show with a singer doing the Hungarian version of "Ederlezi," called "Durdevdan"? It's a song everyone over there grew up with. Goran composes and rearranges traditional Gypsy music from Serbia and the surrounding cultures. He's also pretty hot! He does music for films as well as regular stand alone albums, and I'm pretty sure he's the most famous person in this genre. He's certainly not the only person who does this kind of music, but he's unique in style, I can always pick out a Goran Bregovic song when I'm listening to Gypsy music. He does not sing, he arranges and plays instruments. A couple of his songs were included in the Sacha Baron Cohen film, "Borat," including "Ederlezi." I referred to the "lesser parts of the US" because many wonderful and amazing artists of all kinds from Europe other parts of the world rarely get to the US, and if they do, they go only to NYC, as if the rest of America, including Los Angeles, just isn't worthy of this kind of exposure. It's very frustrating because of about 300 million people, only about 10 million or so live around NYC. If going to New York isn't something easy for you, then you miss all this great stuff. And I've been missing wonderful stuff my whole life because of not living there. Up until Tindersticks played LA a few months ago (their second visit there ever in their 15 year existence), they would only go to NYC once every few years for a special show. Most Americans really miss out on great music and art and dance and theatre from other parts of the world, and it disturbs me personally because I'm left out, too! |

I just posted the name of the song and hoped that despite the wrong spelling Jasmine would remember the conversation we had about it!

switching gears a bit...I am on line, of course, and have the TV on in the background...anyway...I hear this comment about susan boyle, Britian's got
Talent person...having checked herself into a clinic after she lost. Fine...but then there was this comment from a british source that stated that the usual
length of time to be hospitalized for depression or anxiety is 21 days!!!!!!!!!!!!
Spoiler alert: I am going to rant a bit!! Here in this wonderful USA...you may not even be admitted for such a problem....much less for three weeks. In fact...one can be severely psychotic, not taking care of yourself..not able to take care of yourself really....continue to believe that people are having sex all around you...while you are in the psych. hospital...and BAM..they discharge you. You can tell a Judge that you will not take your medicationswhen you are discharged and yet you get discharged three days later....whilst refusing meds at the same time. And, if you are 'fortunate' enough to have private health care insurance, that you are paying a huge amount of money for, monthly....that insurance may be generous and pay for 20 out pt. sessions per year...forget in pt. services. And, if it is determined you are disabled....and get disability pay...if you are able to work, consistly, part time, for 18 months or so....the cut off the disability benefit...somehow you are suppose to survive on income of about $600USD/month and cover your medications that run, typically, $1000+ a month. I am sorry that I go on about these things but it is so maddening. A lot of people have no idea what reallly happens if a person suffers from a mental illness and how lacking the funding is and the resources are. While I don't disagree about how the gov't here is working with GM etc....I do understand the bigger pix about this issue...but I daily see how people struggle in a very real way... AND...okay, rant continues...there is now a new TV show on...called: MENTAL....I watched 10minutes of it...had to turn it off...within the first ten minutes they show a patient coming into the clinic via police...he is hallucinating...he breaks away from the police and takes his clothes off...the psychiatrist takes his clothes off as well and 'talks' the patient down....Yeah..that happens.....then they cut to this paperwork....noting diagnosis....all completely absurd...this show has to be hanked from TV....it is a horrific disservice to the mentally ill and those that work with the mentally ill. Rant over. |

I don't have any experience of treatment for mental illness on the NHS here so I don't know how good it is, but remember Susan Boyle has checked into
The Priory - the most exclusive and expensive clinic in the country, where presumably you can stay pretty much as long as you like so long as you pay. I
imagine the producers of the TV show are footing the bill.

Let me get this straight... she checked into a clinic because she feels depressed she didn't win?

No, it's more complicated than that. She has learning difficulties (she comes across as a little odd) and has led an extremely quiet and provincial life,
and for her the world went mad this last couple of months - millions of youtube watchers and twitterers, an appearance on Oprah, the inevitable backlash and
criticism of her singing, tabloid press hounding her etc., and she cracked. It wasn't the not winning I don't think as she'll have a recording
contract anyway - I imagine she'd have needed some help even if she'd won. But what do I know. I hope she goes back to her little village in Scotland
soon.

Ah, goody! Let's hope Camilla comes along for the ride so that Carla Bruni-Sarkozy can have some company.
On another topic, rather tragic this time: it seems they might have found remnants of the Paris Rio plane that crashed yesterday - though it still has to be confirmed. My heart goes out to the families of the victims.

the inevitable backlash and criticism of her singing,
What criticism of her singing? I thought she garnered overwhelming praise for her talent. I got a brief glimpse of the winning performance and turned it off. I think you're right Jas- she still would have needed some professional help even if she had won. What a whirlwind of a two months. |

She didn't sing as well in the semi-final as in the heat. And newspapers/commentators were more critical of that than they would have been if she
hadn't been so hyped after the heat.
