Just came back from a wonderful trip to Berlin, in itself an exciting city, got to meet up with some wonderful friends, got to see the most gorgeous man on the planet close-up, saw a great play, learned my first Salsa-steps, been to a fantastic birthday party. Thanks to everybody who made this trip so special! Back home, I had a meeting all day on Monday. I dreaded it a little, because the experienced colleague who was supposed to be there was ill. Her replacement was a trainee. And she turned out to be a fantastically interesting person. At the end of the day she told me: "Without your help today, it would have been a total nightmare." Balm for my soul, such a great contrast to people who seem to be out to get you at every turn. Plus my washing-machine that broke down just before I left for Berlin (don't they just know it when you're about to go on holiday) has been repaired this morning at no cost for me since I have a repair contract.

I had my Spanish exams yesterday, I think it went ok. The teacher told me at the end that it had been a pleasure having me as a student this year-always nice to hear. Not too sure about the written part, but we'll see. Only downside is that I'm feeling really poorly this morning, had to cancel a work placement interview I had this morning. I don't think I'll go to my classes this afternoon, I feel sick and it hurts all over... dear me. And the wind blew so loud all night long that I didn't even get a good night' sleep to make me feel ok in the morning. I can't believe you managed to squeeze so much into it...including salsa lessons!! That must have been quite a party, Katrin...would love to see any photos so if you get a chance please email me when you have time. I promise I'll be discrete; like Eva, I value my life too much! Sara, I still haven't got over you meeting your beloved Clive! What were the chances of that happening when you booked this trip? And how lucky you all were to be there during the festival and to see so many great things including Stephen Dillane and Storm. Life is indeed good... Would be nice to plan some kind of gathering some time....perhaps circa spring 2010...we could be like the Icelanders with TFH and buy up a lot of theatre tix for 'some' play.... to the Berliner troupe...you all had a wonderful time....would love to hear a bit more about your adventures and meetings with the men of fame :-) I'll risk the bullet....I can DUCK now... Lib...I did not realize or missed that you were also studying Spanish. I sometimes forget that English is not your native language. You very much impress me my dear!!! It's sometimes difficult to get the balance between sharing experiences here, and making people feel left out, which I do understand. Cindy, there really isn't that much to tell about crumpets. The only crumpet event was on Thursday when I waited with Sara outside the Berlinale Palast for the opening night of the festival and saw people arriving for The International, including Clive and his wife - Clive came over to us to sign some autographs for those around us so that Sara was very close to him and I said a few insignificant words to him and he said that he was being rushed along by the organisers - that was it. But it was the first time Sara had seen him in real life so it was a great event. David Kross was there too, and Tilda Swinton (who's on the jury for the festival), but otherwise it was people I didn't really know but who are clearly very well known in Germany. Oh, and Nina Hagen, but Sara had to tell me who she was (famous German rock star from the 80s, for those similarly ignorant). She was a bit nuts but rather sweet. Instead of signing autographs she would kiss the page and leave an imprint of her lips. As for the other crumpets, The Reader was showing on Friday, but one evening waiting in the cold was enough and anyway we had tickets that night to the Berliner Ensemble's production of Mother Courage and her Children (which was wonderful). The opening of Storm which Stephen attended was on Saturday night which was the night of Clifton's birthday party so obviously we were at the party. We saw it the next day. (relatively speaking, of course) When I lived in Prague, London was a hop and a skip- 2 hours by plane. Unfortunately, I was working as an English teacher and we were paid the equivalent of $200 a month so I took the bus - we were there in no time. I'd have to agree with Eva. We do live vicariously and so enjoy hearing about these encounters with the crumpets. The meetings give us an idea about what they're like in person. The way in which they interact with fans (and shoo away the handlers) is very telling. And an encounter at a post play party is worth gold.

But I have to agree that is always nice to hear a bit about what experiences forumers have...individually and when we get together. But I also agree with the ad: What happens in Las Vegas Stays in Las Vegas :-) I also have to echo what Betuska [I think it was she] said about the envy to be living in Europe and be able to travel to so many interesting places and experience [not just crumpets mind you] such amazing places and events. When my nephew tells me if I ever get to Berlin [still a goal of mine..perhaps in spring 2010] he could meet me by taking a train from Prague and be in Berlin in three hours....sigh....I need to move. I need to relocate. In three hours I could be in Tallahassee....great....or perhaps somewhere close to Savannah...whoopee...or just south of Orlando...double whoopee....Okay, I will stop whining now....;-)

I thought you'd enjoy seeing her name mentioned I try my best not to nag all the time and you are trying to get me carried away... tsk, tsk, tsk... my boyfriend heard an earful about her when we were watching "The International" arrivals, so I'll refrain for the time being! You have a point Betuska (the whole of Europe is smaller than US anyway), but there are some crumpets (mine for example) that don't come here THAT often but are out and about all over America... Hmmm... On the other hand, I saw Willem Dafoe at the official premiere of "The Dust Of Time" here in Athens last night (and Daniel Auteill is performing here for 2 nights) so I am not really complaining. Yep, the encounter was brief, but extremely sweet! Btw, you commented how strange it was that he was sporting a velvet jacket with non-velvet trousers. Well, it was chosen and fitted by Georgio himself. But you are in good company. Just as he set out to get to the premiere, his older daughter texted him: "Have a great time, Dad, please don't wear the velvet jacket." He replied: "why?" She goes: "It's weird and embarrassing." (Of course, if I were his daughter, I'd give him lots of aggro for telling this openly on Conan O'Brien!) Of course, one has to do shovel one's snow afterwards as well. And meet several deadlines. I still haven't got over you meeting your beloved Clive! What were the chances of that happening when you booked this trip?
