All we've heard about here is Serena Williams and her meltdown, which is a pity because it diverts attention from KC's accomplishment.
The men's final was tremendous. I thought Del Potro was done after his double fault to lose the third set, but he pulled himself together. Great job. |

Does anyone remember that in summer 2007 a car with an elderly couple in it stopped next to mine, the driver opened the window asking me whether I was Kim
Clijsters? Though their car was a very low Porsche I thought I would look rather unathletic. Now the riddle is solved: She was heavily pregnant then!

It was actually the first thing I thought of when I heard she'd won. And I'm sure they didn't know she was pregnant. There is a resemblance.

Rather belatedly, congratulations to Kimmy for picking up her second US Open trophy and Jada her first. A heartwarming end to a very controversial (as usual)
US Open. And Del Potro will no longer be called Del Poo Poo as he has proven he's the real deal. And guess who's coming back - Justine Henin -
I went the whole first week and though I usually can't get enough of live tennis, this year's Open was out of control crowd-wise. They sold 40,000 grounds passes per day on some days and extended that into the second week for the first time. So there were lines everywhere - some a quarter of a mile long on Labor Day Weekend - Couple that with some poor choices in scheduling, and it made for some very difficult viewing. Can't say enough bad things about CBS TV. |

We used to call CBS the all-girlfriend-all-the-time network because they showed reaction shots of all the girlfriends after every big point. It seems that
they're doing that less these days, but possibly I'm just habituated.
Lines a quarter of a mile long are truly dreadful, but how great that you got to see an entire week live. Did you stay for the night matches? Btw, very glad to hear about Henin. During the Open, the announcers were hinting that she might be considering a return.
