This is a painting I completed about 2 weeks ago for the Cold-Blooded Creations art show that is being held this weekend (Aug. 17-19th) in Daytona Beach, Florida, adjunct to the National Reptile Expo.Besides the muskrat, there's also a wood frog, spotted turtle and question mark butterfly. A friend told me it reminded him of "Wind in the Willows" which I found amusing.

That's beautiful, Jackie.
Would I be too bold and say that your technique reminds me a little of Gauguin's, at times? Especially in the way you paint the tree leaves. Do not go gentle into that good night

Gaugin?!?!? Oh my godness, I've never even thought of that. Does that mean a tropical vacation is in my future?
I must check out his tree leaves, now.... Jackie "Call it the new aesthetic."

Yes, your style is rather Gaugin-like!

What exactly is the Gaugin quality of my work? I ask, because as a person who has been obsessed with van Gogh for decades, this comparision alarms
I know I don't paint like Vincent, but for my style to resemble the person's who caused him so much pain is disturbing. Jackie "Call it the new aesthetic."

I'm far from being an art expert, Jackie, but I think what reminds me of Gauguin in your works is the way you represent nature.

2008 is starting out well for me, artwise. I just got into a Nature Fest at the end of April and I have solo shows at 2 different libraries right now. Both are
suburban libraries near me, where I've not exhibited before.
This is at Fairview Library, in a large hall on the lower level where all their meeting rooms are. There's groups using them everyday, so I'm getting more exposure than anticipated. It's all of my large pictures, an idea I've had for awhile. The spotlights impress me.
The other library has small pictures in a display case. One librarian walked by after I'd installed it & exclaimed "Color!" which I found amusing. This one is on view until Feb. 22nd.
It's sheer coincidence that both shows run somewhat simultaneously, as I'd applied for the latter way back in August, but the took forever to approve it. I would've liked them a bit farther apart, it would've made things easier, but still am happy at the opportunities. Jackie

I like your paintings a lot, Jackie. I find them very lively and soothing. I love the bright sunflower!

Jackie, These pictures are beautiful. The one picture that I am drawn to is the bird on the branch. The one that has the least amount of color LOL
What type of bird is it? It has the look of a blue jay but doesn't appear to be blue. I would love to see this upclose. Do you take pictures of your art before you put them out there to be sold. I hope that you do. You really have a tallent. XOXOXO ~ Ducky "Happy thoughts, happy dreams,
happy dances in between."

Jackie, I just found this thread and was amazed to see your paintings. They are wonderful! The muskrat picture reminded me of Henri Rousseau.

Ooooh, I see what you mean, Bluekygirl, with all the plants. While I'm familiar with that artist, I don't know if I've ever seen the one with the
gibbons before.
Ducky, I think the bird you're referring to is a tufted titmouse, which is native to North America. The crest is probably what reminds you of a bluejay, but they are smaller, the size of a sparrow. And they are the same color as the drawing, that grey & white, that's why I did it in pencil & ink. I do take photos of my work before displaying it. I used to take slides, but now it's easier to use my digicam. I prop the picture on the ledge in the front of my building outside & the photos usually come out accurate colorwise, though you can't see all the details unfortunately. Sorry it took so long to respond, I don't always check this section. Thanks for the compliments. Jackie

This is my newest painting, finished earlier this month & is now at the Cold-Blooded Creations Show in Daytona Beach, FL this weekend (along with 3 older
pictures).
Titled "Fancy Meeting You Here". It's an Eastern chipmunk and the other animal is a five-lined skink. It's acrylic, 16"x12" and I put it in a brown frame.

Last Saturday(Dec.6th) was the 'Christmas in the Barn' holiday craft show & here's my set-up. I've only been using the table top
arrangement for a year, but it's finally getting a flow. I used to use freestanding display panels, but they are 6 ft. tall & hard to maneuver with my
shoulder problem. The table "steps" are lightweight & set up much quicker.
There wasn't as many customers at the Barn as last year, nor did I do as well, only making a few dollars more than my table fee. But the people who run the show are nice & it's a festive atmosphere, so I mostly had fun.

Earlier in this thread, I jokingly suggested a painting idea to Ducky (a mallard duck family) & she actually took me up on it. I've been working on the
painting for the last few months & have been photographing each part as I've finished. She suggested I post the link here so others can see the
process, too. The pics are in reverse order, but you can start at the bottom row if you want to see how it comes together. Click on the thumbnails to enlarge
them & see my explanation of what is happening in each.

I finally finished Ducky's painting in early August & have posted a pic of the completed work at the link above. It came out pretty well. She received
the painting last week & left an excited message on my answering machine saying how pleased she was with it. It's always gratifying when a customer is
so happy with their picture & she had waited so long for hers, that I was really glad she liked it.
