I especally love his sexy boys in the Galeria Borghese. Tom Hanks gave a very entertaining interview to Jonathan Ross in which he talks about where they filmed
that sequence - it's on youtube in 3 parts, but he starts to talk about the movie in part 2 after 1 minute: http://www.youtube.com/wa...Wj1Y&feature=related (and it goes on into part 3).

I just wanted to show you, this is the kind of thing I'm working on (choosing the photos, writing the texts...). I especially worked on the Terrazas Costa del Sol one.

Very nice. That village is Estepona or San Roque, isn't it? Or somewhere very near them.

It's quite near Estepona, you're right. It's very close to Gibraltar (you can see the rock from the village, which is one of its key sale points

Are you allowed to say which village? I know that bit of coast very well - we have old family friends (Spanish) who used to live just across the bay from
Gibraltar, at Rinconcillo. I spent many happy hours in my 20s gazing across the sea to the Rock. (I typed bar instead of bay first, which would also have been
fairly apt).

Sure, it's Manilva. Do you know it? The site is brand new, it's opened this Spring.

I do! Lovely. The village a few miles inland from it, Casares, is really spectacular. I'm quite tempted to rent one of your apartments myself.

Gibraltar looks so much nicer from a distance than it actually is.

Never been to Spain!
Reminds me I should brush up my Spanish, or I'll be in trouble when Uni starts again in September... Seems I've forgotten everything!

Spain is wonderful, Lib. Andalucia (away from the touristy coast) especially. When I was almost exactly your age I started from our friends' house and took
a bus to Seville, from Seville to Cordoba, from Cordoba to Grenada, and back to Algeciras, staying in cheap hotels and living on gazpacho and Spanish
omelettes. It only took about 8 days (couple of days in each place) and it was just great.
But that was in the days of proper student grants and not having to work the whole holiday to fund my tuition. |

Sounds like a lovely trip, Jas! I should do that soon. I have a couple of weeks at the end of my internship before Uni starts, in September... I'm still
figuring out how I'm gonna enjoy them!

I have to modify a men's suit jacket that we found at the thrift store this evening. My 17-year-old son wants a look circa-1830s; he's supposed to
dress like President Andrew Jackson in history class tomorrow afternoon. We also have a white shirt and black vest and I need to figure out how to tie a
cravat. I'll cut the front off of the jacket, finish the edges, and move a button. Hopefully that's all.
My daughter at the university in Theater Arts is doing a lot of costume design; if we'd had more notice she'd have come down to do it, but since I'm the one who was sewing costumes for her before she learned to sew, she knows I'm up to this. Lily Barthes |

Have fun Maggie! When you mentioned 1830's & cravat, I was picturing Richard Armitage in North & South. I know Gaskell's N&S was set in
the 1850's but it's only a 20 years difference.

Good luck designing the Andrew Jackson costume, Maggie! Why not include some bullet holes in the outfit for authenticity? Andrew Jackson was shot during duels
more than any US President! ;-)

We passed on the cravat, but we added a vest to make it look a little more old fashioned. I took a suit jacket and cut the front off at the waist over to the
side seams and re-hemmed around the gap, so it looked like a jacket with tails. Then I took a woman's vest we found and reshaped it so it came in about the
same length of the front of the jacket, but would add a little authenticity. We had picked up these things at a thrift store for under $20. It was a silk
man's suit jacket for $3.33. The white shirt he chose was the most expensive piece--$7.50, meaning the shirt was probably originally about $50. Amazing how
expensive men's shirts are. I told my son that since the shirt wasn't altered it can go in his closet for future use. The other pieces will go in my
daughter's closet, that already looks like a costume department. (She is double majoring in English and Theater Arts, with her focus on costume design. I
made all of their costumes for years, but now she's really taken all of that sewing to heart!)

Hooray!! Goran Bregovic is actually coming to the US for a mini-tour and he's going to be in Los Angeles in June! Probably my only chance to ever see him.
He's totally worth it, but I will have to deal with the aggro of driving up to LA on a Friday afternoon (the show is at 8pm) and then driving back home.
Normally, the drive up there would only take about 2.5 hours or so, but there are 10 million people there--all driving! Public transport is very limited, so
they pretty much all drive. It might take me 5 hours to get up there. But at least going back home at 10pm or so will be better. I can't believe I'm
finally going to get to see him after being a fan for about a decade or so, and seeing how he'd perform only in Europe or NYC on the rare occasion, never
venturing to the lesser parts of the US!

Maggie, that sounds very creative! Lib, have a great time - are you wearing your black(navy?) and white dress? Nastia, that's great - remind me - singer?
