When Robbie and the other two soldiers went to Dunkirk Robbie went aside to have a look at his wound. He then saw something in a tree which looked like a part of a boy's pyjama's leg. I remember that it was quite a disturbing scene because Robbie (and so the reader) couldn't get rid of the image. Robbie keeps on thinking of what might have happened to have it there.
